MATTHEW “MATT” CARTER

Novel: Goddess of Flames

Genre: Fantasy/Supernatural

Who is Matt?

The second oldest of the three Carter siblings (Luke, Matt, and Shana Carter). He’s the complete opposite of Luke: white, skinny, totally unathletic, lazy, and the one who tends to get his other siblings into trouble.
He was adopted by Luke and Shana’s mother when he was two years old and blends in with the all-Black family as if he was blood-born… kind of like their own “Maniac Magee”. He has a cynical attitude about things, but his charming wit and rebel good looks make him popular with pretty much anyone, especially the ladies.
Despite being such a charmer, he still has a tendency to ruin the good things in his life that bring him happiness – something he despises and can’t understand about himself. He loves being a part of the Carter family and constantly worries that he’ll do something to drive them away.
To avoid any unnecessary harm coming to his family, he chooses to harbor a very powerful secret: since the age of 8, he has possessed psychic abilities far beyond anything he can understand. From being able to see all sides of a person, to the ability to use “invisible hands” to touch and manipulate anything in the third-dimensional world, Matt has found himself able to wield a power that scares even him, and he isn’t easily shaken.
Upon moving to Roshaton, he finds himself attracted to good girl Clara, even though they are far from each other’s type.

If Luke was a stunner, then Matthew was a lady killer. Back in Philly, they were notorious for wooing girls with the romantic flair of modern-day Casanovas. Both were tall and handsomely flawed, but in different ways.

Matt had been blessed with striking blue eyes and wavy brown hair that he let grow longer than their mother would prefer. It stopped just before his shoulders and had so much bounce, he’d recently started to joke that he should star in a shampoo commercial to help pay the bills. He had crooked teeth but didn’t care, since he rarely showed his teeth when he smiled – or rather, smirked flirtatiously.

While Luke had noticeable muscles, Matt was leaner and refused to work out. He’d battled cancer in his youth and it affected his weight drastically; weight he had never been able to gain back. Girls still found him to be incredibly good-looking, with an endearing charm and wit.

Matt, on the other hand, was a self-proclaimed asshole and damned proud of it. In fact, he believed a national law should be passed that mandated he - and ONLY he - would never have to be monogamous. Much to his pleasure, girls saw him as a challenge and he actually got more play than Luke.
